U Wash was set up as a service by Alexander Fox Ltd, to help people claim tax relief and a tax rebate if they have to wash and launder uniforms they have been given to wear at work.

The Tax Man states you could be able to claim a tax refund for washing your work clothes as long as:

  •    Your employer doesn't provide you with laundry tokens or similar
  •    Your employer doesn't provide free laundry facilities, whether or not you use them
  •    Your employer doesn't take care of the washing themselves

  • We are currently assisting employees from all business sectors reclaim over paid tax, and arranging for the relief to appear within
tax codes for future tax years. Many employees are put off due to the time and complexity in pursuing a claim (It is the employees
responsibility to make sure they are paying the correct amount of tax, not the employer). The Tax Man allows claims to be back
dated up to six years!, and claimants can receive an average rebate in excess of £300.

We offer our services on a ‘no win-no fee’ basis, and if successful we charge £5 admin plus 17.5% of the rebate as our fee. To take advantage
of our service, all individuals need to do is supply as with some very basic details and sign one form, allowing us authorisation to pursue their claim on their behalf. Nothing else. You do not need to seek the consent or approval of your employers, and you do not need to part with any cash up front.

I wear a uniform for work, what am I claiming for?

If your employer provides you with a uniform and you are expected to take care of it yourself the Tax Man considers that there is a cost associated with this on which you can claim tax relief. The Tax Man has a standard rate of £60 for this cost, which you can claim tax relief on. The tax relief is usually 20% of the allowance, plus some interest for earlier years. Certain trades have a higher amount which may result in a larger refund. We can help identify and claim these extra reliefs.

What records will I be asked to provide by my tax office after I have submitted my claim?

Your claim should go through without having any further correspondence with your tax office. You will not need to provide details of your expenditure as the expense allowance is based on an agreed flat rate.
